Description

Saint Arsenios is a modern saint of ancient glory.  He is a wonder-worker and very active to help those who pray to him with faith.  Saint Arsenios was born in Farasa in Cappadocia in 1840, and entered the Holy Monastery of the Honourable Forerunner in Kaisareia at an early age, dedicating his life to God through obedience, fasting, prayer, poverty, chastity, humility, and stability.  Because of his great faith and dedication, he was ordained a priest, and later sent back to his native town of Farasa to teach and minister to the Christians who lived there under the harsh Turkish rule.

Saint Arsenios served them and taught the children and adults their Greek and Orthodox heritage, including elementary education.  He also shut himself up in his small hermitage two days a week and didn’t come out for anyone.  His living example and many miraculous healings became widely known both among  Christians and Moslems, who were often healed by his prayers to Christ.  Saint Arsenios predicted the mass exodus of Christians in the population exchange between Greece and Turkey in 1924, and died after leading his people to safety in their new home in Corfu.
