Description

The Holy Prophet Joshua was the son of Nun and lived about 1,500 years before Christ.  He was the chosen successor of the Prophet Moses and led the Israelites into the Promised Land and then led them to victory after victory for 28 years.  Chosen earlier as one of the spies to go up into Canaan, he stayed faithful with Caleb against those other spies who were afraid and told Moses and the Israelites to return to Egypt rather than follow God’s Will.  Because of this, only he and Caleb of his whole generation lived to enter the Land of Milk and Honey.  He lived to be 110 years old.

The name Joshua comes from the Hebrew Yehowshua, which means “God saves” or “God, saviour,” which is the same name that Christ was given, for Jesus is the Greek form of Yehowshua, meaning he who saves his people (Matt 1:21).  The Prophet Joshua was mighty in war and mighty in faith, one in whom God sent His Grace upon because he was so ardent to follow His Commandments with an upright heart.  Here he is shown as a young warrior just before he was about to take Jericho, where the great Archangel Michael with Joshua led Israel to victory.
