Description

This is a basic set that includes the icons of two recent saints: St. Olga of Alaska and St. Porphyrios of Kavsokalivia (known from “Wounded by Love”). It was pulled together to give those new to Orthodoxy a means to easily fill out their first icon corner. (Welcome!) Of course you can use this as a starter and add in other icons from the site as well. You can also find other sets built around different themes: most popular icons, universal saints, icons with scenes/stories, for men, for women, for a family.

The recently glorified St. (Matushka) Olga of Alaska in her earthly life was the wife of an Alaskan priest. She spent her days as a mother of her children and her village. Her children are still alive today. After her falling asleep, she became especially known for her help of women who had had difficult upbringings or times in life. The words “God can create great beauty out of complete desolation,” are words she spoke in a vision to one such sufferer, after healing her from very severe childhood trauma.

St. Porphyrios of Kavsokalivia is a much-loved recent saint who reposed in 1991. After running away to Mount Athos, a center of Orthodox monasticism, at the age of 12, he spent about a decade there before being forced to return to the world because of illness. God endowed him with rare gifts of clairvoyance, prophecy, clear sight and discernment at a very young age. He then spent the remaining decades of his life as a healer of souls, a priest and a confessor – about 30 years of it at a hospital in the very heart of the noise and bustle of Athens. People flocked to him, and he often would hear confessions from morning to night, and then dedicate the night to prayer. He is a rare saint and a special gift to our times.
