Christ is shown in fine detail, especially in the highlights on His tunic and the decorative jeweled Gospel Book in His left hand, as He blesses us with His right. His figure rises out of a gold-leafed background, and His features are sober and His eyes probing in His intense awareness of all of our feelings, all our thoughts, and all our actions. If we were more aware, we might not sin again, for sin is always a misperception of evil that is somehow and in some way disguised as some sort of good. However, in our present troubled times, the veneer of good that sin misrepresents is much thinner and the evil more transparent all the time.
The Lord is shown with a long thin nose, long brownish hair with reddish highlights and parted in the middle, a short brown beard and a thin moustache. His expressive eyes are brown and lively in truth with sober compassion. He is the “Ruler of All” as the name “Pantocrator” means, “for of Him, and through Him, and to Him, are all things: to Whom be glory for ever. Amen.” (Rom 11:36) May we be ruled by Him, for as Saint Paul says “in Him we live, and move, and have our being.” (Acts 17:28)
