Icon of the Angelic Choir (Patmos) – F90

Description

Here is a bright and colorful icon of the Angelic Choir which always stands in the presence of God in Heaven and with their hearts always sing praises in love towards Our Lord and God and Saviour Jesus Christ, and the rest of the Holy Trinity, God the Father and the Holy Spirit.  The angels seen here represent all of the nine ranks of Bodiless Hosts: Angels, Archangels, Principalities, Authorities, Powers, Dominions, Thrones, Cherubim, and Seraphim.  The invisible and immaterial Creation that they inhabit is, according to Tradition, far larger than the physical Universe.

Christ is shown here young and in a rondel with an open Gospel book before Him and resting on the wings of a six-winged Seraphim.   As the Second Person of the Holy Trinity, He is always present before these angelic beings, and is the Light of Heaven by which all of Heaven is illumined and all perception in these elevated and blessed realms is possible.  As we say in the Nicean Creed, “Light of Light, true God of true God, by Whom all things were made.”  Yet Christ was born on earth, lived among us, and shares in our suffering humanity, the bridge opened for us to be with Him.
